10th-Oct-2010 11:57 am - Halfway through fall
I haven't updated in nearly a month, mostly because I've been busy, but also because I know no one likes to listen to people prattle on about school and work.

Short update on that.Collapse )

It's good to feel productive again.
Writings:
  • Eugene, Oregon
I pulled an all-nighter to get this one done, and hated it. I thought it was inelegant and too much of a caricature. There's also a lot unsaid here, as far as my full opinion goes. My instructor said she didn't know if I loved Eugene or was poking fun at it. That made me so happy.

  • Joaquin Phoenix punks American in "I'm Still Here"

The entertainment section is KILLING IT in Speakeasy. Not that it's a competition or anything, but I like working in a group where we're all facilitating each others' success. We're (generally) putting out some quality writing, too. I particularly liked Holly's review of The Social Network.

15th-Jul-2010 12:53 am - Birthday 2010: Cave City, Continued
Days 4 and 5 of our vacation were spent in Cave City, Kentucky, and we did pretty much everything we set out to do. Yesterday was antiquing, Go Karts, movies and Diamond Caverns. Today was Kayaking on the Green River and a fabulous lunch in Louisville. I got a lot of color in the form of both local and sunburn. It was one of my favorite vacations, but I'm happy to be home.

Day 5: Kayaks and Blind PigsCollapse )

I'm back home now and really not looking forward to how much there is to do to catch up with life. Summer school is about to hit me full swing, work is giving me many projects, there are many social commitments to fulfill, ESL tutoring as always and the whole mountain of chores that inevitably pile up while you are ignoring life and having fun. I like being busy, but it would be nice to have a vacation I could ease out of, for once!

Last weekend and early this week, we planned on visiting some friends in Cincinnati and some friends in Nashville. The Cincinnati leg is now over, but the Nashville leg never happened. Our friends fell ill and now we're in Kentucky...and I'm having a blast. Kentucky. Who knew?

Nashv...oh wait. Kentucky?Collapse )

I just signed up for five credits of French 101 over the summer because I am crazy. I tested into 102, so 101 in two months should be a breeze, right?

21st-Jun-2010 10:39 pm - A Somali Wedding Party
I think I might be the first person in history to have attended a Somali wedding party and a goth club in the span of 24 hours. I'll write about the goth club separately, because the Somali wedding party was cool enough to warrant an entry of its own.

I got an A in the one class I was worried about. I guess the fact that our group project was turned in two days late didn't really matter. Woot! One final, and then time for summer!

[edit] New writing thingys:

  • The long awaited "penis essay," On Potency

  • "In My Hands," an oral history of my friend Amy, the world's most dedicated ESL teachher.

21st-May-2010 05:33 pm - School Update
Things are changing so quickly right now that I'm hesitant to post about it.

In brief, I was not awarded any scholarships, so I don't have to worry about carrying a full course load. So the idea is to continue going to OU twice a week for the Journalism and English (and possibly Sociology) courses I'm interested in, and fill in my remaining GE courses elsewhere -- including the dreaded language requirement, which cannot be tested out of (at least not at OU). This all means I probably won't graduate next year (I wasn't really expecting to), but on the bright side, I have more time for networking, extracurricular, and classes I enjoy.

Colour Meme: Comment if you'd like a colour. Then list ten things that you like/love which are that colour. Then make a photo collage.

karenjeane gave my cyan, which is hard, because it rules out food and animals.
